There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino gaming is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of many borders.

The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, features 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel complex that highlights a number of conveniences on top of the gambling hall, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
